Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year!
I am very excited to continue to serve as Palm Lane’s Principal. This year, we are so happy to have our students back in person full-time! We have some amazing programs beginning this school year that is certainly going to enhance the academic experience of our students.
This year, we are excited to kick off our PBIS program. Students in every grade level will show their ROARing best by: being Respectful, Offering Kindness, Always Be Safe and Be Responsible. Students will have a chance to earn PAWsome coins that they will turn in to their class bucket each week which will help the school reach its monthly ROAR goals. Also joining us this year is Maestro Music. To promote the social-emotional well-being of our students and to encourage their creativity, every student in grades TK – 6 will attend a music class 30 minutes per week. Palm Lane will host two concerts this year at the beautiful Anaheim Convention Center in the Winter and in the Spring. Finally, to support our working families, The Boys and Girls Club will be at Palm Lane after school Monday – Friday to host a no-cost afterschool program. Students in this program receive a healthy snack, homework help, and partake in a host of enrichment activities.
At Palm Lane, our student’s academic success is extremely important. To support our teachers in meeting the various needs of our students, Palm Lane is becoming a Reader’s and Writer’s Workshop school. This year, we are implementing Writing Workshop. Writing workshop is an approach to writing instruction that puts students front and center. It is based on the belief that students grow as writers when they are given the opportunity to write frequently, are taught explicit strategies, and get timely feedback. Unlike traditional writing instruction where students are often given teacher-created prompts, the workshop approach gives students choice in the topics and kinds of writing they do. Teachers teach explicit strategies for writing that are based on what students are ready for rather than following a one-size-fits-all curriculum. In addition to learning important writing skills, the workshop approach also helps students develop independence and agency. Using Writing Workshop helps the Palm Lane community fulfill our vision of developing students who are productive citizens in the world. Grammar, reading comprehension, and all other literacy strategies are weaved into Palm Lane’s Workshop model which will help students be college and career-ready.
Safety at Palm Lane is a MUST. We have monthly safety drills that help to prepare students for various types of emergencies on campus. We also follow COVID-19 guidelines and policies. Please visit the COVID-19 links on our website to see our detailed COVID-19 safety plans.
We are looking forward to an amazing school year. GO LIONS!!!!
